As the world of make-up and fashion constantly change, it’s important to know who to seek tips from to make sure we are getting the latest advice on trends and colors. As a talented and very creative make-up artist, Françoise Saint-Pierre is someone i’ve personally trusted to receive the latest in the industry.
Based in Los Angeles, Françoise Saint-Pierre is recognized for her leading role at Lise Watier. Business Developer, Trainer and Makeup Artist, she promotes the brand trough makeup exposition and at Naimie’s where it is sold in exclusivity in the United States. Her clientele is a mix of celebrities and makeup artists: Dolly Parton, Anthony Gordon, Adam Christopher, to name a few. She also works as a makeup artist and hair stylist for film, print and events. Read more about Françoise below:
Where were you born?
I was born in Quebec City from a French Canadian father and a French mother.
Where do you live now?
I live in Los Angeles, California
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. I saw a brain in formol when I was very young and was fascinated.
How did that transpire to a career in makeup?
I hope it doesn’t! Seriously, I cannot keep anything simple; I always make everything a little bit challenging. Nothing is ever enough for me, I always aspire higher. I am a dreamer and do not think human has any limitation.
How did you now that the makeup artist industry was where you wanted to be?
I did not have to force it. It just happened. It was a really natural and easy process. Everything just aligned right. After graduating from Cinema Makeup School, I got a job with Lise Watier Cosmétques and I have been working with them since. I love my job and it is the only job I have ever loved. I think the makeup industry is very particular and what is particular about it is that everybody is absolutely and entirely dedicated to his or her craft. It is a very passionate environment.
Do you have a signature style?
I love dewy skin and smoky eyes. I love the Brigitte Bardot look and put a touch of it in my work.
What inspires you?
The sixties are my biggest inspiration. I like Edie Sedgwich makeup a lot and I always have to hold myself from big eye and nude lips. I also work a lot with mood board and like to take inspiration from other culture and mixing different period. Having a good knowledge of the different periods is crucial in makeup artistry.
What work do you admire?
I admire the work of Serge Luthens. He was such an inspiration for his time and such a talented individual. I also admire Karl Lagerfeld. He is a magnificent artist. Those people are living 20 lives at once and have a huge influence in art.
What does the future hold for you?
I would like to collaborate with makeup artists on different projects. I learn so much by working with my peers. I feel like the industry is always improving and bringing new innovative products. Technology is a big part of the makeup industry and I actually cannot wait to see what new techniques are to come. In the immediate future, I have a project that combines mixed arts and futuristic fashion en makeup. I like to combine different media. I also would love to put a book together.
Okay, ladies – just because it’s the end of summer doesn’t mean you should stop getting waxes or slack on maintaining your, “business” if you know what I mean. Waxing is a painful, embarrassing and unenjoyable process. Coming from an Italian girl, I try to avoid waxing at all costs. However, we all have to do it at some point. Whether it be my bikini line or underarms, there’s nothing that makes me feel more confident than getting a good wax.
As most waxes are sticky and made from products that probably aren’t the best for my skin, I was introduced to a new type of wax that results in a gentle and (dare I say) enjoyable waxing experience. Uni K is the place that I experienced my first enjoyable wax. With locations across Florida, California and New York, Uni K uses an elastic wax made from beeswax and pine tree resin with hydrating essential oils. Unlike conventional hard, hot wax, it’s applied at body-temperature and stretches over the entire area of skin, allowing waxers to remove hair all at once without wasteful paper strips or painful pulling. Uni K’s quick-working expertly-trained staff and easy prices will have you hairless, glowing and in a bikini all the time.
Founder, Noemi Grupenmager, opened Uni K Wax Centers in 1993. Her goal was to achieve a non-irritating and pain-free wax, applied by specially trained waxers. Having sensitive skin herself, Noemi also recognized the need for a wax that was all-natural, and would not aggravate the skin with harsh chemicals and synthetic ingredients. With all of this in mind, Noemi developed Uni K Wax Centers, and the first and only all-natural elastic wax, a product of three years of in-depth laboratory research.
If you find yourself in Florida, California or New York, you must stop by a Uni K Wax Center!. Locations and more information can be found at Uni K Wax. Happy waxing!
Florida is known for it’s theme parks, swaying palm trees and sparkling oceans. If you’re in Orlando, Fla, you’re in luck. The best thing about Orlando is that you are right in the middle of two major bodies of water – The Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re looking for a beach to go to you, you’re just about 1hr – 1hr ½ away from the best beaches in the country.
Let’s say you want to check out the Gulf of Mexico. The West Coast of Florida is gorgeous with powdery white sands and clear blue water. Clearwater Beach is the best beach to go to on the West Coast that is closest to Orlando. Clearwater is a great place to take your family or spend the day with friends.
Heading over to the east coast, Cocoa Beach is Florida’s surf capital and famous for it’s Ron Jon Surf Shop (also home to professional surfer, Kelly Slater). Cocoa Beach is about 45min-1hr away from Orlando and is a great beach for the younger crowd. So pack you’re car and take a short road trip to the beach!
Travel writing may seem like the dream job to most people. In most cases, they’re right. Being a travel writer has more “perks” then just about any other job and when you think about it, traveling and writing for a living is the life! You get to travel, write, meet interesting people, eat all kinds of different foods, do things you’ve never dreamed of doing and put your entire experience into a story to share with the world. Seems like a dream. What most people don’t see is the hard work and competitiveness involved in the profession. There’s a lot more to being a travel writer then just flying around the world on someone else’s expense. Although you may be saying, “Yea, right. I work hard behind a desk all day. Being a travel writer is a cake walk.” Well, think again and I guarantee you will cherish getting your paycheck every 2 weeks after you learn about what it takes to break into travel writing.
The job of being a journalist, for one, is one of the toughest industries to break into. You can go weeks, even months without getting paid. Don’t think that just because you see an article in Conde Nast Traveler that anyone can be published. It takes years of hard work, living on pennies and Ramen Noodles, dedication, a tremendous amount of talent and creating relationships with the right editors to maybe get there. If you want to work freelance, you’ll have to work twice as hard. Travel writing isn’t taking the easy way out of a normal 9-5 job, because technically you will need to work 24/7 for years until you grab the right opportunities.
If you’re thinking about being a travel writer, the best place to start is to get your own blog and start writing on your own experiences. The money won’t come for a while, but if you stick to it, the opportunities will present themselves.
Either day or night, there is no better time of day to enjoy a rooftop garden in New York City. With crystal clear views of Manhattan and endless amounts of entertainment, rooftop gardens/bars/restaurants are some of the best destinations to find whether you’re a resident to the Empire State or just visiting.
I’ve been to 230 Fifth a couple of times. Once at night and for brunch and I have to say, I loved everything about this location. First of all, the straight shot of the Empire State Building is breathtaking, along with the unique decor and ambiance of the garden itself. 230 Fifth is open to the public 365 days a year from 4:00PM to 4:00AM daily.
Opening on May 4, 2006, in just one year it has received worldwide recognition as New York’s # 1 Rooftop Garden and Fully Enclosed Penthouse Lounge / Bar! That’s a big deal, especially in NYC! So during my little afternoon buffet brunch, I shot a short video for you to take a peek at. Enjoy and see you at 230 Fifth!
I’ve lived in Florida my whole life. There is nothing that screams “Florida” more then palm trees, warm sunshine, endless miles of powdery beaches, luxurious attractions, and world famous golf courses. That is the Florida I know and love. However, being a native of the sunshine state, that “Florida” feel gets lost when I’m sitting in traffic with Mickey Mouse running around in a city like my hometown, Orlando. So, I went on a mission. Where is that one place to go that has everything within a few miles? I needed a place with the beaches, the luxury shopping, the golf courses, the palm trees, and the peace and quiet. I needed it, and I needed it fast.
For me, I’ve been to most major cities and beaches in Florida, and this mission was all about finding a new and unique destination that felt tropical without the tourists taking over. I skimmed across my “where I’ve been map” of Florida with a red “X” over each place. However, there was no “X” over Palm Beach Gardens, and this is where my journey began.
Within miles away from the beach, minutes away from luxury shopping and dining, and seconds away from world famous PGA golf courses, I found just what I was looking for at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens. The PGA National Resort & Spa is more then what most would consider a “place to sleep.” I found it to be a high-end experience that was memorable from the moment I first walked into this AAA 4-Diamond resort until the moment I got into my car to leave.
The PGA National Resort & Spa is a premier resort, golf, and meeting destination. A warm and contemporary décor with 339 -spacious rooms and suites and 40 two-bedroom club cottages, this resort offers guests an endless amount of amenities that I’ve never had available to me at any other resort. From a 40,000 square foot soothing spa, to the 33,000 square foot health and racquet club with 19 full size tennis courts, to the 9 onsite restaurants and lounges, there is truly everything here and more I could need. I see this location being the ideal spot for family get-a-ways. There is everything here to satisfy moms, dads, and kids. For the dads, this resort is well known for it’s 5 championship golf courses:
The Champion- Jack Nicklaus Design (famous for being the home of the PGA Tour’s Annual Honda Classic)
The Palmer- Arnold Palmer Signature Re-Design
The Haig- Tom Fazio Design
The Squire- Tom Fazio Design
The Estate- Karl Litten Design
While the men are out teeing off on one of the championship golf courses, where else would the women choose to be other then getting pampered at the spa? My stay included a spa service in the 40,000 square foot oasis of rest and relaxation. The spa includes 32 treatment rooms and offers over 100 unique treatments. The one amenity in this spa that really sets itself apart is it’s 6 exclusive outdoor, “Waters of the World” mineral pools that contain minerals and salts imported from around the world. Each pool has it’s own significance for relaxation, healing, and purifying. The greatest part is that even though the resort is minutes away from luxury shopping, such as the Gardens Mall, and famous beaches, there was really no reason to leave the resort. Even when it came down to where I was going to eat. When nighttime came around I enjoyed a delicious dinner at the resorts signature Ironwood Steak and Seafood, a lounge environment with outstanding cuisine and afterwards enjoyed a crisp glass of chardonnay at iBar, which is located in the lobby and is a wonderful spot to meet, mingle, and relax.
The PGA National Resort and Spa was truly one of the greatest resort experiences I have encountered. The staff was more then accommodating to all of my needs, and happy to help! I definitely found the perfect destination to escape the daily chaos of traffic, work, and stress. Are you ready to experience a world of relaxation and modern luxury? The experience of the PGA National Resort & Spa awaits you.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, this is the season for giving. We all know women that deserve the best gifts out there and (as a woman) I can tell you that we love high-quality beauty products that are effective, easy to use and safe for our skin and body.
Over the past year I have had the pleasure of using products from the well known beauty brand, Chrislie Formulations.
